McDonald’s Golden Access Instant Giveaway Microsite

  • The Task

As the main sponsor, McDonald’s executed an experiential activation at the Life Is Beautiful music festival. McD’s app customers selected tickets from a mural containing a unique code that offered consumers an opportunity to instantly win VIP access, swag, food and other prizes via an interactive microsite that I oversaw the design and development of. There were over 35 prize types and more than 500 prizes to give away in total. I also needed to ensure that we designed and created a suitable admin for the team on the ground at the activation to track and monitor the status of every potential prize and every noted winner.

  • The Challenge

Because this was an instant win with some high value prizes, I needed to work closely with the development team to not only build a site that can accommodate race conditions of an instant give away, but we also had to architect a flow that would securely and digitally obtain necessary legal documents from winners receiving a prize valued at $600+, and allow users to release their prize back into the available pool of prizes if they didn’t feel up for filling out paperwork at a music festival. Furthermore, the only unique identifier we were cleared to collect on the site itself was the unique code pulled off the mural by user.

  • The Outcome

I was no stranger to data collection or accounting for and testing race conditions, but in order to meet all of the unique, strict requirements of the document collection, I opted for an integration with DocuSign PowerForms. Each prize type had a unique link of the required document bundle. We added in a field to each bundle to collect the unique code (to cross reference if needed), and were able to successfully obtain documents from winners, validate against the microsite admin portal’s content, and give away all 500 prizes in an extremely chaotic, fast-paced environment.
